Year 5 students close the Primary Years Programme with an Exhibition

In the first week of December, Year 5 class of São Paulo formally presented to an examining board the Exhibition, which represents the end of the PYP (Primary Years Programme) cycle of the International Baccalaureate methodology.

Over the past semester, students have divided into five groups to thoroughly inquire into topics of global relevance and collect evidence for the completion of the following projects: No Poverty, No Poverty in Africa, Gender Inequality, Life Below Water, and Climate Change and Good Health. The themes are connected to some of the Global Goals i.e. the UN’s 17 global sustainable development goals. The central idea of the No Poverty project was to look into how poverty affects people’s lives, while the No Poverty in Africa group argued that poverty on the African continent is a consequence of choices made by all countries.

To delve deeper into the difference in treatment between men and women around the world, the Gender Inequality group investigated how boys and girls are treated with regard to learning and the gender pay gap that still exists. To the examining board, students explained how gender culture affects our personal choices. The other two environmental issues also surprised the evaluators. The Life Below Water project had students address the pollution caused by plastic and the harm caused to marine life by waste discarded in the ocean. In the Climate Change and Good Health. presentation, the group explained that the health and well-being of living beings depend directly on the environment in which they live.
