Celebration of Learning Presentations Close The 2021 School Year
In early December, students from the Pacaembu and Higienópolis campuses presented amazing work during the Celebration of Learning, an event in which classes share everything that was learned, reasoned, discovered and created throughout the school year.
Toddler’s students invited classmates from other classes to participate in a “journey” to the plot of the book “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”. As explorers, they recreated the story sensorially with the five elements present in the bookt: mud, blizzard, grass, river and forest.
K3’s classes observed the creative process of American artist, performer and choreographer, Tony Orrico, and explored his drawings with movements on the floor.
Meanwhile, K4 students put into practice what they learned during the Signs unit of inquiry and prepared a space with city car traffic as a backdrop with traffic signs created by the students themselves. Toddlers and K3 classes were invited to enter this space and use their imagination.
Elementary school students also shared the knowledge they acquired in 2021. Students created music, models and posters; performed in a play and presented a special edition of the Big Book, these were only some of the activities that took place. The Middle Years classes chose what they liked most to learn in 2021 and expressed themselves through videos, photographs and texts.
Students as protagonists of a global future
The Year 5 groups presented to an examining board the Exhibition projects, which represent the end of the Primary Years Programme cycle of the International Baccalaureate (IB). Aligned with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, the five projects demonstrated protagonism, critical thinking, global vision and cooperation by identifying, investigating and proposing solutions to social problems.
The group “Women in the pandemic” addressed the effects of the pandemic on the female population, using online and offline communication as an instrument of social awareness. The impacts of Covid-19 were also portrayed by the “The Impacts of Covid” work team, which researched how education, safety and the economy were affected, consequently students proposed raising funds for an institution that supports women in a vulnerable community.
The structural poverty affecting the country was the focus of a study group “The effects of poverty’, which evaluated scenarios and organized games. The proceeds collected from the ticket sales in the school community will be donated to the Institution Lar de Maria, aimed at children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability.
Aware of the lack of basic conditions for many Brazilians, the “Sustainable group” promoted a charity bazaar and donated the profits to an NGO that supplies food to homeless people.
The group ‘Women in the workspace’ brought a look at the gender pay gaps and obstacles in the markets, and conducted interviews with CEOs who shared their challenges as women in leadership positions.
