RED HOUSE students run campaign to support animal protection NGOs
In RED HOUSE, students are aware of the responsibility they exercise in building a better world and act as protagonists of their own learning. With this premise, the Year 6 class of the Villa Lobos Campus decided to support an animal cause.
In an initiative that came from the students themselves, candy and juice sales were organized for the school community to raise money to help two NGOs that care for animals: the Philanthropic Associations “Os Animais Importam” and “Santuário Terra dos Bichos”.
The sales and donations proceeds totaled approximately BRL3,000. The group also collected newspapers for the rescued pets.
Protagonism in volunteering
Before getting hands-on, students presented their initiative to the campus director, Fabrice Bidaury. Once the project was optimized and approved, students then researched the services that some NGOs provide, the costs of collecting and keeping animals, and the immediate needs that the organizations had.
They selected the two NGOs that would benefit from their action, prepared the products for sale and, finally, created posters in Portuguese and English to publicize the action at school and mobilize their classmates. The project was also presented in assemblies for Year 1 to Year 7 students and teachers, as well as Year 6 parents.
Animal Rights
The Villa Lobos campus received a visit from the Os Animais Importam NGO, with the participation of dog Melito, who was rescued by them, and the president of the Philanthropic Association, Leandro Ferro, who is an animal rights attorney and gave lectures about the organization’s work to students from Year 1 to Year 7. Also present was attorney Alice Messina, vice president of the NGO.
At the end of the campaign, students also interviewed Ferro to understand how the proceeds will be used in the NGO, actively participating in the whole process.
Visit to the sanctuary
Students also visited the Terra dos Bichos Sanctuary, located in São Roque, São Paulo. The sanctuary houses about 475 animals of 19 different species rescued from mistreatment; they also received a donation from RED HOUSE.
